John is saddened by the death of Chas Hodges. Chas was one of his favourite people. John first interviewed Chas & Dave when they were virtually unknown, in the late 70s’. They came to the Savoy Country Club, Yarmouth, to advertise Courage’s beer. He met them so many times after that and on several occasions also met up with Chas to promote his solo career.
“On one occasion I interviewed him in a London hotel and he insisted on walking me back to the underground station. Obviously, he got recognised all the way. I once went to Fareham to chat to him and he always had time for you. He was such a great musician and once really impressed Jerry Lee Lewis. He was in Heads, Hands and Feet and also, for a while, The Crickets. I loved chatting to him and he had so many great stories. Chas & Dave stopped for a while, after Dave’s wife died, but then, by public demand, got together again.”
