WC OCTOBER 24.
Went down to Shanklin Theatre on Wednesday afternoon to see the matinee of Home At Seven, the top professional play starring Brian Capron and Jenny Funnell. A most enjoyable experience. I was also delighted to interview Kevin Pallister at very short notice. He turned out to be a real surprise having played the lead in the West End’s Buddy and he reprised the role in Toronto. During his appearances in this hit musical he came into contact with The Crickets, Buddy Holly’s widow and Bobby Vee. He also became very famous for playing the school teacher and double murderer Graham Clark in Emmerdale. Ironically, in the same production is the former Corrie serial killer Richard Hillman (Brian Capron).
We went to an Evening of Fun and Frivolity at the Memorial Hall, Freshwater on Thursday night. It was well worth the visit. Any youngsters in the large audience might never even have heard of Tom Lehrer, Round the Horne or Flanders and Swann. Hopefully, they would have found it more funny than many of us of a certain age do when encountering modern comics and humour. It was fascinating to see the main performers of the show, Bertie Everson and Andrew Woodford, both young men, recreating some classic comedy songs and radio scripts. They did a very good job, particularly with the clever songs of Flanders and Swann.
