WC August 3.
Like millions of others I was both shocked and saddened by the death of Cilla Black. I was lucky enough to be the only person to interview her during her five week summer season at Sandown Pavilion in 1983. She was very kind to me and I will never forget the first night of her summer season. It was just amazing. She did 75 minutes of quality entertainment and brought the house down. On JH Meets on Sunday August 9 on IW Radio the entire interview will be played to celebrate her life.< Had a great Monday night at the Arreton home of drummer Dylan Amey who has supported several top names over the years, made records with various groups and toured with Steve Ellis’ Love Affair. Listen out for him on IW Radio’s John Hannam talking about his first major Island gig. Wednesday night was rather special. We went to Jersey Boys at the Mayflower, Southampton, and, like the capacity audience, were on our feet at the end to applaud this great show. It just gets better and better and there are so many hit songs. Well worth a visit. I still prefer the Neil Sedaka story, the musical called Laughter In The Rain, which, sadly, has never made the West End. Jersey Boys is at the Mayflower until August 15. Now with the Red Jet at 11pm it is so much easier to get back after a show. Finally made a cricket match to watch Ventnor play in the Southern League. I had not been since my late wife Heather died back in 2006. We used to go and watch Ventnor regularly but I found it hard to even think about going on my own.. I decided to go on the spur of the moment. Now I have been once it will happen again. Ventnor won and they included Hampshire’s Danny Briggs, who was discovered by Ventnor CC, and he scored 92, took two wickets and two catches. Met some old friends, got some ideas for future interviews and had a great tea with my friends Graham and Christine Benson, who sponsored the game. I did not know this until I got there.
