WC AUGUST 25

I had a very exciting Tuesday. I went up to the Electric Airwaves Studio in London to meet BEVERLEY CRAVEN, to record an in-person interview. She had been recording down-the-line telephone interviews all morning at the nearby BBC. It is so much better to meet her face to face – and we had met a few times before. She talked about her exciting new album, Change of Heart, which is very autobiographical and features songs about her eventful life. She also talks about recovering from breast cancer and her divorce. It can be heard on John Hannam Meets on Sunday September 7. I then nipped over to Pimlico to have a cup of tea with my old pal Craig Douglas. There was plenty of chat and quite a few laughs and he was in good spirits, despite his health problems.

I got back to the Island had a quick bite to eat and headed for Shanklin Theatre to see Inspector Drake and the Time Machine. Peter Stockman is such a good comedy actor – as this funny play proved just that.

I went to East Dene at Bonchurch on Thursday night to see the IW Shakespeare Company’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which was moved indoors due to the weather. They did well in a very limited space. They have some brilliant your actors. On the way out I overheard some good remarks about the show but much of the conversation was focused on Puck, played by Matthew Mckew. Why did he have a Welsh accent? Many of us could barely understand a word – and it was such a key part.
