WC March 31.
I went to Rickmansworth on Monday to have lunch with my son, Sean, who was 40 on that very day. There were six of us at the Feathers Hotel for lunch but only Sean had the meat pie that contained Kangaroo and Crocodile. He loved it – and hopped all the way back to his house. By the way – this is not a gag. It really was his lunch. A most enjoyable day.
On Tuesday I loved the First Act show at Shanklin Theatre – which, as ever, brought tears to my eyes. The History of Shanklin Theatre – According to First Act. I left there at 7-55 and headed to East Cowes to talk to the local WI group. Another nice experience and I met a few old friends from my home town.
On Wednesday I interviewed Island auctioneer Tim Smith for a forthcoming JH Meets. He was in fine form and will prove a well chosen guest, thanks to a chance meeting with a couple of his friends in Nodehill, Newport, who suggested his name. Later in the day I attended the funeral of Bill Brett at the Crematorium. Sadly, another real local character has left us.
On Thursday I went to East Cowes to interview Josie Morey for The Beacon. She has an amazing story and will appear in the May issue. In the evening I went to the Apollo Theatre, Newport. It was not one of their most memorable shows.
