It’s been a busy week – just how I like it. There were two articles to write for the April Beacon – and Peter Boffin and Tony Grimwade were duly completed on Monday.
Wednesday proved a day to remember. It was the very first time I had interviewed TV, movie and stage actor, Stephen Wight, here on the Island. He is always busy and it was so great to see him back where it all began. He first acted at Medina High School, as a kind of punishment for trying to beat the system for an early lunch. How lucky he was to be made to audition for a school production. He became an Island amateur actor – and the rest is history.
Later in the day I went to Cowes Football Club, a venue I went to for around 20 enjoyable years to report on their matches, but this time it was to catch up with Island band Bobby I Can Fly, who have re-formed for a charity gig. The last time I had interviewed them was in 1986, in Ventnor.
On Friday afternoon I headed for Aldershot to finally catch up with comedian and actor Sean Hughes, who is coming to the Quay Arts Centre, Newport, on April 4. It had long been an ambition and I was not disappointed. He was great to interview and a real nice guy. He shares my enthusiasm for in-person interviews – and not quick chats over the phone. This is being aired on Sunday March 23.
