WC DECEMBER 9
It’s been quite a busy week with seven shows planned. On Tuesday I went to the Kings, Southsea, to watch their pantomime and interview three of the stars Danniella Westbrook, Christopher Maloney and Tony Adams. Danniella and Christopher have received a tough ride from the press in past years but both were a joy to interview, despite being busy. They all perfrom well in a super Sleeping Beauty which runs until January 5. Danniella has connections with the Island, which was a surprise.
Saw a stunning Nutcracker at the Nuffield, Southampton, on Tuesday. This one tells the story in words and songs. I found it rather easier to follow than in the ballet version. One of the best I have ever seen at the Nuffield.
On Thursday I saw two Snow White productions – one professional one in Winchester (at 1-30pm) and the other and amateur ptroduction in Shorwell at 7-30pm. One was better than the other – and it could be a surprise?
On Friday I saw an amazing show at the Medina Theatre, Newport. Medina College produced a stunning version of Miss Saigon and there were some fantastic performances. The best I have seen from them since Godspell, back in the 90s, as Medina High.
Managed to see two local pantos at the weekend. Dick Whittington at Freshwater and Scrooge at Cowes. In the first, much of the traditional story was left out and in the second, Scrooge is not easy to produce a pantomime from. Lots of enthusiasm from both shows and the casts seemed to be really having fun. How nice to see so many youngsters getting involved. They are the stars of tomorrow’s Island amateur theatre scene.
It seems I still have at least three more to see before Christmas.
