Last week was the quietest I had encountered for several years with no interviews and no IW Theatre Awards productions to watch. I did enjoy the Saturday night Shanklin Theatre show with the Brotherhood of Man and Jimmy Cricket and had tears in my eyes the following night when I saw Warhorse at the Robin Hill’s Cinema Under The Stars, promoted by IW Radio. It was nice to meet some regular listeners to my show and many others who are fans of the radio station.
I have had a great response to last Sunday’s interview with Sarah Beardsall, which also tied in with a feature I had written on her two days before in the County Press.
I have been working on a project I am doing on the former Islander Gary Cowtan who played here back in the 60s in The Shamrocks, who supported the Rolling Stones at the Ryde Pavilion back in ’63. He went off to Germany with the group and appeared on their album. He had his own Berlin studio for several years and has written several hit songs. Recently he was back for a couple of weeks and recorded a fascinating interview with me for John Hannam Meets and, hopefully, the CP.
Saw Brenton versus Brenton at Bembridge on Friday night and this Red Tie comedy was so much more entertaining than the rather boring final night of the football transfer window. I was so glad I went to this clever comedy – and it was a pity there were not more in the audience. I think the only one who didn’t enjoy it – was the lady I took with me. It could have been worse!! She hates sport and would not have understand just what was going on in the mad world of football transfers where money seems to be no problem – until the next club arrives in liquidation.
Ended the week with a visit to Totland’s Village Hall and my expectations were again realised by the excellent young Kaleidoscope company, who have an uncanny knack of presenting top quality farces – and they are all so young. Another enjoyable evening of burgeoning young Island talent.
