Monday was the day I had been looking forward to for some time – and, admittedly, with a little trepidation. I headed to Croydon to interview Dame Judi Dench live on stage at the Ashcroft Playhouse. This was at the opening of the new £42 million complete, with five performing spaces. Wow it was such a brilliant occasion and you can read all about it in The Beacon magazine in a few weeks time. Judi was such a lovely lady and it was a real honour to spend time with her both on and off stage. Also in the audience was the Lord Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, who proved such a charming man. One of the best days of my life. It caused quite a stir on social media.
On Tuesday, the day we travelled back, my new books arrived and I spent a while signing 50 copies for sale on the Talking Pictures website.
It was back to reality on Wednesday when I caught up with my housework. Then came the exciting news that a possible interview with another major British actor might be around the corner.
Earlier in the week I was sad to read about the death of Jason Dors Lake the son of Diana Dors and Alan Lake. I first met Jason back in 2013 in Broadstairs ,when he gave me a super interview. I will be presenting this as a Hannam Archive to celebrate Jason’s life very soon. He may have been troubled but he was a super young man.
The week ended with a surprise visit to the Ryde Bus and Coach Museum. In was late Sunday afternoon and the occasion was the launch of Angelina’s new album called Last Cigarette. I told my partner that I had ridden in an open top bus in Ryde. She didn’t believe me. She asked me where I went – and I said nowhere. To view her live gig many of us were sat in double decker buses, within the museum. It was a great event and her music on this new album is a lot heavier and more bluesy than she has ever done before.
