Had a rare day off on Bank Holiday Monday. I volunteered to be the taxi driver to the Calbourne Antiques Fair. I enjoyed meeting a few old friends and, as ever, found a theatre book I didn’t have, in the book sale.
Thursday was a rather special day. I went to the Theatre Royal, Bath, to interview a lovely lady. This was television, movie and stage star Ruth Gemmell (pictured above). I loved her in Band of Gold, Home Fires, Fever Pitch, Murder in Mind and Silent Witness. Her other series include Utopia, Penny Dreadful and many others. I had interviewed Ruth back in 2007, when she had a house in London. We also watched a matinee of the play she was in, The Whale. It was a fantastic play and one we were still discussing 24 hours later. Superb acting and I was thrilled to see its first-ever run in Britain. Quite mesmerising.
