WC Sept 5.
Went to Harrow on Wednesday to meet Sean and Caroline. We all had lunch together as it was, sadly, the tenth anniversary of Heather’s death. We toasted her memory and it was just nice to be together. It was a press day for one of Sean’s magazines so it was just an hour but his office was just around the corner from the restaurant. Later in the afternoon Caroline and I went to London’s Dolphin Square to meet up with a real family friend, Craig Douglas. Due to ill health Craig has had to give up showbusiness but he was in good spirits and we had a photo session in the garden.
On Thursday evening I nipped down to Shanklin Theatre to interview two of their very talented youngsters from their The Best of the West End and Beyond show, Rowan Lathey and Brad Barnley. These interviews can soon be heard on a new John Hannam Meets podcast. It’s a brilliant show and can be seen on Wednesday and Thursday nights until the end of September.
I have tried to watch some of the new versions of old classic BBC sit coms. I have not been impressed and the ‘Til Death Us Do Part was switched off after 3 minutes. The Hancock was poor but Are You Being Served? was great fun but suffered from a poor script. For my money Porridge was the stand out and I have already watched it twice. The original writers and it was brilliant and would make a great new series.
Saturday morning was particularly memorable when interviews with two of my favourite actors were confirmed for next week, I can hardly wait.
Ended the week watching Cowes Sports play football at Westwood Park. They had lost 8-0 earlier in the week but this was so different. Out of the blue they defeated highly rated Bristol-based team Cadbury Heath 4-2, after extra time, in the FA Vase. I hope they get another home draw in the next round. Cadbury Heath underestimated Cowes and paid the price.
