WC APRIL 4
The early part of the week was spent writing new chapters of the book, compiling my next Beacon article and editing more podcasts. Sadly, I was too busy to attend the opening night of An Inspector Calls at the Mayflower, Southampton,
Went to Soho on Wednesday morning to interview PAUL YOUNG, who has just released his first solo album for 20 years. It’s called Good Thing and goes back to his roots with a great selection of influential R&B songs. It was first trip to the Red Light Studio and I really enjoyed the hospitality. As ever, Paul Young was in great form. Look out soon for a new JH podcast featuring this London interview.
It was also something of a scary week. I had to send the first chapters of my book to Marty Wilde, who is writing the foreword and it was on his suggestion that I started to write it. Thankfully, Marty was pleased with my work and asked for a few more chapters. I am about half way through at present.
The week ended with a visit to the Mayflower, Southampton, on Sunday night to watch two showbiz legends on stage – Jimmy Tarbuck and Des O’Connor. There was a huge crowd to see them perform and it was well worth the visit. Jimmy Tarbuck was in vintage form and even had topical gags about off shore money and the Archbishop. The punters loved him. In the case of Des, it was just great to still see him on stage at the age of just 84. He’s been a professional entertainer for over 60 years.
To make it a perfect night, I spent an hour in Jimmy Tarbuck’s dressing reliving old memories. We have been friends since 1979 and it’s such a pleasure being in his company. I also told Jimmy one of my secret passions in life – and I might live to regret it!!! He did tease me on the way out of his dressing room.
