WC NOVEMBER 9

A quiet week by recent standards. It began with a Sunday night visit to the Shanklin Theatre, to see the Matt Monro Story. A very enjoyable evening and being both a friend and fan of the late great British singer it was an evening of pure nostalgia – and I loved it. Matt Monro Junior, another good friend, has worked hard with his voice and it was the best I had ever seen him. The show included lots of rare footage of his father and many really emotional moments. Not too impressed with the narrator – otherwise the show was most enjoyable. His band, augmented by recorded studio musicians, were quite superb. It was well written by Matt Monro’s daughter, Michele, who wrote a brilliant book on her father just a few years ago. I had a busy night planned but was so glad I made room to see this show. It was worth an early rise the following morning to write the planned article for the County Press.

Met up with Whitwell’s John Woodford on Tuesday morning. He’s the subject of my December column in The Beacon. It was all written by teatime. I am dame pleased with it – if you see what I mean!!

I must admit that some reviews in the CP for recent amateur theatre productions, none of which I had seen, did make me feel a little sad. After 17 non-stop years I must expect a few regrets of giving up the IW Amateur Theatre Awards. It was such a huge part of my life. Beginning to plan and start writing my new book was the start of another exciting venture.
