WC MARCH 2
I had a most enjoyable Monday afternoon in Winchester interviewing TV, movie and stage actor Richard Hope, who has one of the most famous television faces in Britain. He is currently touring in The History Boys which comes to the Kings Theatre, Southsea, form 22 to 25 April. He is also in the new Poldark series playing Harry Pascoe Poldark’s banker. I dashed back to the Island for a private meeting re the future of the IW Amateur Theatre Awards.
Tuesday night was also rather special. I went to the Cowes home of the Turner family to record two members for a special segment for the Mother’s Day edition of John Hannam Meets. They were in great form.
A chance meeting in Nodehill a week or so ago has led to an amazing guest for John Hannam Meets. Mike Greenwood, with whom I played cricket many years ago, was an Island schoolteacher for 32 years. His story since then has been remarkable.
There is a possibility I could soon be interviewing a young lady from an all-girl pop group who had number ones with their first four singles. All could be revealed soon.
I had a lovely end to the week. I was invited to the 90th birthday party of Hazel Meatyard at the Brading Haven Yacht Club. Hazel is one of the nicest people I have ever met in my 40 years as a showbiz writer and broadcaster. It was mind kind of party. Not too many there, a nice quiet and relaxed atmosphere, the chance to meet some old friends and a lovely birthday cake.
