WC FEBRUARY 3

Monday was rather manic but I loved every minute – other than when my recorder played up for ten minutes in London. It was just one of those blips which just happen with modern equipment.

I arrived at the Electric Airwaves Studio, who have been very kind to me over the past 15 years or so, to interview OMD’s Andy McCluskey. Imagine my delight when the other original, Paul Humphries, also turned up and they both bounced off one another and gave me a great interview. They have just released a brilliant deluxe version of their old hit album Junk Culture. It a double CD with rare tracks on the second disc. We had real fun – and I tried to forget one supported Manchester United and the other Liverpool.

Just 15 minutes after my Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark interview one of my favourite actors, a guy called Peter Wight, arrived for my interview. Another lovely man from hit series like Our Zoo, The Paradise, Early Doors, Out of the Blue and great movies that include Mr Turner, Atonement, Vera Drake, Pride and Predudice and Hot Fuzz.

It was all go and on the way home I called in on an old friend in Surbiton, Gordon Peters, who is heading for Newport’s The Apollo Theatre on Saturday February 28. He’s done several Island seasons in past years. It meant three interviews in just over three hours.

I got home to see the last two hours of the football transfer window show on Sky. They did their best to make it interesting but it’s far too over the top and an ego trip for a certain presenter. It was embarrassing when they went to some of the grounds of the major clubs and nothing was happening at all. It’s not like the days they all earned £20 a week!!

Saw a great one play called My Boy, written by two local authors, at the Bargeman’s Rest on Thursday night. Just a three hander and 35 minutes in length. Congrats to Origins Theatre Company for putting it on. Very emotional evening and was it Kevin Wilson’s best ever performance on the Island?

On Saturday morning I met a great young Islander currently in the world’s top brass band. All will be revealed soon.

Loved the New Moon Lower Hyde gig on Saturday night and it was a complete sell out. I think it was their best ever and the last set, with 8 on stage including a brass section, was just brilliant playing classic soul and motown. Just a night to treasure and a chance to meet old friends and enjoy a quick chat.
