WC JULY 30

My week got off to a very satisfying start. I had to deputise for Melvyn Hayes at the Shanklin Theatre session of the First Act Theatre Group, made up of adult clients with learning difficulties. It was such an inspirational occasion and I loved chatting to them, taking their questions, sharing a few laughs and generally getting to know them better. I am always so thrilled to attend their two theatre shows a year. Many of them are very switched on to the world of theatre and their own participation is so important for their quality of life. I hope to be invited back.

Drove up to St Boniface Down on Saturday lunchtime to go for a run. As I got out of the car the track on the CD was Frankie Laine singing Rawhide. I was still singing this as I ran down the downs towards Wroxall and found the field I had to run through had a herd of Highland Cattle right by the gate. Being no Rawhide cowboy, I decided not to enter the herd – the horns alone decided that. With frustration, I rattled the gate and suddenly the whole herd took one look at me and ran to the other side of the field. I suppose you can’t blame them – one look at my legs and everyone runs!!! At least I ran through the field – a little quicker than usual.
