WC FEB 26.
Met up with Melvyn Hayes on Monday to take him to look at the Apollo Theatre, Newport. This is where he is appearing on an Island stage for the first time since 1980, on Friday April 13. It’s a charity night and tickets will only be £7. I will be hosting the night and Melvyn will do the complete first half and then we will get together for the second half and there will an input from the audience.
I nipped over to the Holiday Inn, Southamptom, on Tuesday to meet up with my old pal Richard Digance, who is appearing live at the Medina Theatre, Newport, on Saturday March 10. He’s on my show this Sunday and we’re playing three of his latest tracks.
I spent Wednesday afternoon in the company of Doug Watson, Dave Cannon and Harry Dexter, talking about the exciting days of the nightclubs at Binfield, on board the Medway Queen and the Ryde Queen. I’s a fascinating look into past Island life and will be broadcast on Sunday March 11, with some of the most popular records ever played at the venues.
I was saddened by the news of the death of my old friened Fred Price. He came on my shows many times and we made both a cassette and video together. One of the real nice guys. I loved popping into his home for a chat, a piece of cake and cup of tea. Fred and Vera were always so pleased to see visitors. I am so glad I took my girlfriend down to meet his last year. My late wife, Heather, was another Fred Price fan. I hope to celebrate his life in a few weeks time.
