WC FEB 12.
My special Tuesday Valentine turned out to be one of my favourite actors of the last 50 years – the brilliant Michael Jayston. He nipped over to IW Radio to record some voice-overs and I managed to grab him for just over 30 minutes to talk about his career in acting, which includes so many hit series and movies. His TV shows include Emmerdale, A Bit of a Do, Only Fools and Horses, Darling Buds of May, Outside Edge and Dr Who. He’s made movies with Diana Dors, James Coburn, Jack Palance, Richard Harris and Alec Guinness.
Back in 1979 I wrote a piece in the IW Weekly Post about The Havens Showband who were playing for the season, six nights a week, at the Ponda Rosa, Ryde, for the new owners Ken Pritchard and Ken Ford. This brilliant five piece were all from the same famiy. I have just interviewed three of the group (none of the five have ever left the Island) and two from the next generation of the family. There will be music spanning 33 years.
I should have gone to Canterbury on Thursday to interview three famous actors. I was never confident this would happen – and was proved right. I was very disappointed and had been let down by a PR company.
Ended the week with a visit to the Wight Strollers Robin Hood pantomime at the Medina Theatre, Newport. There were moments to savour – and a few to forget
