WC OCTOBER 10

The funniest thing of the day was looking up the John Hannam Meets page on the IW Radio website – www.iwradio.co.uk – and finding myself with the perfect mask for radio. I never knew Darth Vadar wore a pink shirt!!!!!

It looks as if I will be interviewing a famous American folk music star who has had hits on both sides of the Atlantic, in the next few days.

Saw All The Fun of the Fair for the third time on Tuesday night at the Mayflower, Southampton. This one just gets better and better and David Essex is still one of the most charismatic stars in Britain. This is his musical and he deserves the huge response he gets from every performance, backed by a brilliant cast which includes one of my long-term showbiz friends, Louise English. I was so flattered to hear from the show’s company manager/director that he had bought one of my John Hannam Archives Vol 1 CD, which includes interviews with Tommy Cooper, Norman Vaughan, Jack Warner, Adam Faith etc.

In the 60s we lived in a flat in East Cowes, which was less than a mile from Osborne House. Never did I imagine that I would be interviewing the legendary American singer Judy Collins, who first found real fame in the same decade,
just up the hill from Kynance House. The other night Judy, who has enjoyed worldwide hits like Both Sides Now, Send In The Clowns and Amazing Grace, was in concert at the Victoria Hall, Osborne House. What a night it proved to be!! A magnificent vocal performance from a lady who still looks quite stunning. She was heading for Heathrow directly after the concert to fly back to the States but found me a little time for an interview – and we both enjoyed it. Another milestone in my 39 year career as an interviewer.
