WC FEBRUARY 14.
Monday began well with the confirmation that a very famous comedian, who has been a star for 30 years, has agreed to appear on a future JH Meets. He will be perfect to help celebrate 21 years of John Hannam Meets. I am also chasing an interview with a famous American country music star who has just released an album of duets with other major stars.
Went to London on Wednesday to interview the Blow Monkeys, who have a brilliant new album, Staring At The Sea, just about to be released. Their lead singer, songwriter and guitarist, Dr Robert, had flown in from his home in Spain to meet the media. I met him, on a one-to-one chat, at the Wise Buddah Studio, in London’s West End. I will be playing some old hits and four tracks from the new album. We had some fun and listen out for him soon on John Hannam Meets. We had a great time.
I undertook a talk at the Lake Tuesday Club at the local Methodist Church Hall. The ladies seemed to enjoy it and it was a most delightful evening and I met a few old friends amongst the appreciative audience. It also helped raise a few pounds for the St Mary’s Breast Care Unit.
Saw Kindertransport at Newport’s Apollo Theatre and it was one of the best I have seen there for some considerable time – with several outstanding performances. It is a very emotional play – and I had the damp cheeks to prove it.
I had a most enjoyable time on Friday as the guest at the annual dinner of the Shanklin Evening Townswomen’s Guild, at the Shanklin Conservative Club. Had a surprise when I found a few close friends amongst the diners. My honest critic, who came with me, said, quite rightly, it was not of my best after-dinner speeches but the audience seemed to have enjoyed it. The hospitality and food was first class.
