WC JANUARY 10.
It’s back to business and I was delighted to do four interviews in the first two days. One or two are really fascinating and all will be revealed soon. One of them was one of my earliest British rock ‘n’ roll heroes – Marty Wilde – at his home, too. I also interviewed a contemporary of his on the way home, which will prove someting of a tear jerker. More interviews are being lined up every day. Perhaps this year might prove better than I expected, after such a memorable 2010.
Just found out on Thursday that the new Radio 2 series, Desmond Carrington’s Iconic 50s, will include several of my rare interviews from back in the 70s. The six part series begins on Tuesday January 18 at 10pm. Last year Desmond included three of my old interviews, with Matt Monro, Anne Shelton and Malcolm Vaughan. For the first time ever my name is in the Radio Times, on a national radio page. It’s enough to make my pacemaker speed up!!! Larry Adler will be among those featured in the first show. My late dad, Roy, would have been so thrilled. He encouraged me so much during my early days of writing and broadcasting. The stop press news is that Desmond is using eleven interviews.
It was also a quick return to the County Press Awards, with shows in Bembridge and Arreton on consecutive nights. My son, Sean, is also getting excited by a band I am interviewing in London during February.
