WC AUGUST 9
This has been a real novelty week with no interviews or shows to visit. This is the first time for several years that this has happened. It’s been enjoyable but I wouldn’t want it too often. Overdue admin, well most of it, has been undertaken, CDs sent out and prospective interviews have been followed up. As ever, some requests for interviews have never been replied to.
Have at least two, or possibly three, next week. I still have eight interviews in the can with some fascinating guests among them.
Getting an interview with The Wurzels, who have been friends since the 70s, has recently proved more difficult than meeting up with Hollywood stars like Charlton Heston, Donald Pleasence, Michael York, John Mills and Jeremy Irons.
I was offered a down-the-line phone interview but declined. I’m still hoping to meet up with them soon to promote their brilliant new album. Sadly, the Garlic Festival would not have provided the quiet surroundings needed for a chat show interview. I had been hoping to see them several weeks ago to promote the CD and their Island visit.
On Saturday night I did catch up with Les Payne, the Island-born rock singer, at Caulkheads, Sandown. Les was visiting family and friends for a few days and could not miss out on a live gig. He has done over 6000 during his career. Listen out for an amazing interview with Les on a future John Hannam Meets on Isle of Wight Radio.
